Pulled from a public exchange-rate feed each time this page loads. The Rufiyaa is officially pegged at roughly MVR 15.42 per USD — for the exact buy/sell rate Customs uses for duty calculations, check customs.gov.mv.

Container Tracking — Any Carrier, Worldwide

Works for any shipping line internationally — not just Maldives Ports. Enter your container number and we'll send you to the carrier's own official tracker.

Container numbers follow the international ISO 6346 standard — the first 3–4 letters identify the owning shipping line (e.g. MSCU = MSC, MAEU = Maersk, CMAU = CMA CGM). We detect the carrier from this prefix and link you straight to their official tracking page, where you paste in the number for live, authoritative status. We don't store or transmit your container number anywhere — the lookup happens entirely in your browser. If your shipment was imported through us, your agent can also check status directly with the shipping line on your behalf.

Regional Port Discount

Clearing through a regional port instead of Male' can cut your duty bill substantially.

Goods cleared through a regional port — Hdh. Kulhudhuffushi, S. Hithadhoo (Addu), Hdh. Hanimaadhoo, S. Gan or N. Maafaru — instead of Male' are eligible for an import duty exemption of up to 50%, easing congestion at the capital's port. Tobacco, liquor and pork products are excluded from this exemption.
Tick "Clearing via a regional port" in the estimator below to apply this automatically to your estimate. Eligibility and the exact exemption percentage are confirmed by Customs at declaration — your agent will check this for your specific shipment.

China–Maldives Free Trade Agreement

Maldives' first-ever bilateral FTA — and it directly lowers what you pay on Chinese imports.

Since the China–Maldives Free Trade Agreement (CMFTA) took effect, 70.3% of Maldivian imports from China now qualify for zero duty. From 1 January 2025, tariffs on qualifying construction materials, furniture, machinery and electronics from China dropped from 10–25% down to 0%, and customs clearance for these goods has been streamlined from 5–7 days to around 2–3 days.
This applies to goods that meet the agreement's "originating goods" rules (genuinely made or substantially processed in China) — not every Chinese-sold item automatically qualifies. Tick "Chinese origin (CMFTA)" in the estimator if your item is from China; your agent verifies the exact origin and HS classification before your quote is finalised.

Electric Vehicles & Renewable Marine Equipment

A real, legally-backed duty exemption for going electric or solar — not a rumour.

Under Article 8 of the Export-Import Act (Law No. 31/79), the President/Cabinet has waived import duty on electric and renewable-energy-powered vehicles, and separately on solar panels and solar panel batteries used in marine vessels — part of a push to move the Maldives' transport and marine sector away from fossil fuels.
This exemption is granted on a documentation basis: the item must be certified as eco-friendly by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) before Customs applies 0% duty. It covers electric/hybrid-renewable vehicles and solar components for vessels specifically — it does not extend to petrol/diesel vehicles or to marine equipment generally (engines, hulls, jet skis still carry standard duty). Select the matching category in the estimator below, and your agent will handle the EPA certification paperwork as part of your quote.

Examples of Vehicles That Qualify

A few real examples to make the EV exemption concrete. Always confirmed by your agent before you commit to a purchase.

Electric golf cart / buggy

Electric golf carts & buggies

Fully battery-electric, no engine at all — a straightforward qualifier for the EV exemption with EPA certification.

0% duty
Battery-electric car charging

Battery-electric cars (e.g. BYD)

Genuinely battery-electric models — like BYD's Dolphin, Atto 3 or Seal — run on a battery with no petrol engine at all, and qualify with EPA certification.

0% duty
Electric drive vehicle charging, illustrative

Nissan Note / Aura (e-Power)

Nissan's e-Power models drive the wheels entirely with an electric motor — the petrol engine only spins a generator and never connects to the wheels. In practice these have been cleared at 0% duty by agents importing them. Note: this is a series-hybrid design, not a plug-in EV, and we haven't found this explicitly named in the published law — your agent reconfirms current EPA/Customs treatment before your quote.

0% duty (confirm with agent)

Rough Tariff & GST Estimator

A ballpark figure for budgeting — your agent confirms the exact HS code, duty and GST in your itemised quote.

The HS chapters and duty bands below are general guides based on Maldives Customs' published tariff structure (ad valorem duty, 0–100% of CIF value, set per item by the Valuation & Tariff Section) — they are not a substitute for the exact 8–10 digit HS code Customs assigns to your specific item, which can carry a different rate. GST on imports is currently 8% on the CIF + duty value. Regional-port clearance (excluding tobacco, liquor and pork) can reduce duty by up to 50%, subject to Customs confirming eligibility at declaration. Goods of genuine Chinese origin in qualifying categories (construction materials, furniture, machinery, electronics) can enter at 0% duty under the CMFTA, subject to origin verification. Electric/renewable-energy vehicles and solar marine equipment can enter at 0% duty under Article 8 of the Export-Import Act (Law 31/79), subject to EPA eco-friendly certification. For the official, item-level classification and rate, search the Customs Tariff lookup or ask your agent to confirm in writing before you commit to a purchase.
Why import through us

Duty rates, FTA savings and regional discounts — explained before you pay, not after.

Every request gets a dedicated agent who checks the exact HS code, current exchange rate, whether a regional-port exemption applies, and whether your item qualifies for 0% duty under the China–Maldives FTA — before you spend a single rufiyaa. No surprise charges at clearance, no guesswork on duty, no chasing customs yourself. We believe every Maldivian importer deserves to see these numbers as clearly as we do.

FAQ

Common questions

Is the MVR 100 fee refundable? +

The dedicated agent fee covers your agent's time researching and preparing your quote, so it isn't refundable. There's no obligation to proceed with the purchase after you receive your quote.

How long does it take to get a quote? +

Most customers hear from their assigned agent within 24 hours, and receive a full itemised quote within a few days, depending on how complex the request is.

How is your fee structured? +

The MVR 100 dedicated agent fee covers your agent's time researching and preparing your initial quote. Once you approve a quote, a separate service fee for sourcing and handling your import also applies. Your agent will walk you through the exact figure and full cost breakdown before you pay for anything.

What if I decide not to go ahead with my quote? +

That's completely fine. The quote is yours to consider, and there's no obligation to proceed once you've seen it.

How do I pay for the goods themselves? +

Your agent will walk you through payment for the goods, shipping and duties once you approve your quote — handled separately from the initial MVR 100 dedicated agent fee.
